What is pink salt?

Pink salt, often called Himalayan pink salt, comes from
ancient sea salt deposits found deep in the mountains of
South Asia. It’s mined by hand and is known for its
distinctive pink color, which comes from trace minerals
like iron, magnesium, and calcium.

Pink salt is mostly sodium chloride—just like table salt.
But unlike table salt, it’s not refined or bleached. It also
doesn’t contain additives such as anti-caking agents.
Some people prefer its coarse texture and stronger flavor.

It's used in cooking, but also in non-food products. You’ll
find pink salt in bath soaks, scrubs, and decorative lamps.
Some believe these lamps purify air, but the science
behind that is weak. However, the salt itself does have a
few natural qualities that make it a bit different.

The mineral content, although small, adds a richer taste
and slight nutritional variation. In some cases, using pink
salt instead of table salt may reduce your exposure to
synthetic additives.
